4 Benefits from Having a Sewer Line Camera Inspection

4 Benefits from Having a Sewer Line Camera Inspection

  • Drain Cleaning
plumbing repair in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

Are your plumbing systems acting strange? Is your toilet backing up despite not appearing clogged? It might be time to call Alliance Plumbing for a sewer line camera inspection! Sewer cameras consist of a camera at one end of a long, flexible rod. The camera connects to a computer to show a live feed of what’s inside your sewer pipes. Call our highly-skilled professionals, and we’ll be able to get your pipes cleaned out. But how does sticking a camera into your pipes help you get your plumbing unclogged?

Here are 4 of the benefits you can reap compared to other repair methods:

  1. Get the right fix the first time. There are a variety of reasons your drain pipe may not be working. Things flushed down the toilet or the sink drain may have caused a blockage, tree roots might have grown into the pipe, or the sewer line may be cracked or disconnected. There’s also the possibility you have a water leak. Each problem requires its own unique solution, and a sewer line camera can help us figure out exactly what we need to do to fix it.
  2. Avoid unnecessary digging. Usually, the only way to get a good look at your pipes is to dig into your yard and look at the pipes. Not anymore! Sewer line cameras offer a non-intrusive way to get a good look at your pipes and avoid tearing up your garden.
  3. Receive a reference video for insurance. When you get your pipes checked by a sewer line camera, you also get a video of the footage for your own use. This can be useful if you have to explain to your insurance agency what happened.
  4. Much cheaper. As well as being cheaper and faster than digging for pipes, sewer line cameras can help you locate early warning signs of bigger problems. By finding these issues and dealing with them quickly, you can save more money by not undergoing serious repairs.

6 Benefits of Houston Repiping

6 Benefits of Houston Repiping

  • Plumbing
repiping in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

Over time, your home’s water pipes can get slowly worn down by chemicals and minerals in the water. This is even more likely if you’re using outdated piping materials such as galvanized iron. As a homeowner, you’ll eventually need to call to get repiping for your Houston, TX home. Otherwise, your old pipes may break and cause heavy amounts of water damage. By replacing your old, worn-out pipes, we can greatly improve your home’s plumbing system.

Here are six ways repiping your Houston home can improve your home:

Cleaner water

Depending on what pipes you have, corrosion may be a big factor in your decision to get repiping. Materials like galvanized iron are prone to rusting from the inside out, and all of that rust gets in your water. Not only is rust gross to have in your water, but it can also hurt your piping even more. Replacing your old piping with copper or PVC pipes can help you avoid dealing with rust.

Better water pressure

When pipes get damaged, this can often cause your home’s water pressure to drop. If your shower’s spray isn’t as forceful as it used to be, that’s a sign your water pressure isn’t doing well. Getting repiping will not only restore your water pressure, but it’ll ensure you can run multiple plumbing appliances at once.

Improve your home’s value

While repiping isn’t a visibly obvious renovation, but it’s still one buyers will appreciate, and it’ll improve your home’s value. If you’re thinking about selling your home, repiping can be a good investment. Repiping shows that you care about your home as a homeowner and are willing to keep it in good condition.

Improved appliances

Are your clothes coming out of the washing machine still dirty? The problem might not be on your appliance’s end. They’re only as good as the water they get is. If you get a repiping, you may find that your appliances will work much better than they were before.

More hot water

When your home’s water pressure is good, they’ll be able to fill up your tank water heater faster than they could before. This means you won’t have to wait as long to get hot water for your showers or dishwasher.

Save money

While it may not seem like paying for a repiping is cost-effective, it’ll save you money in the long run. Having healthy pipes means you won’t have to worry about leaks and water damage, both of which can cost plenty of money to repair.

6 Reasons to Get a Garbage Disposal Replacement

6 Reasons to Get a Garbage Disposal Replacement

  • Plumbing
garbage disposal replacement in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

If you own a garbage disposal, it can be a convenient way to dispose of trash and keep your sink and pipes clean. However, like any other appliance or bit of plumbing, your garbage disposal will get worn down and need replacement, even if you’ve been careful about what goes into the disposal. Having a worn-down or broken garbage disposal can make it harder to cook or clean. Whenever a garbage disposal needs to be replaced, you’ll often notice a variety of signs.

Here are six signs that your garbage disposal needs replacement:

Foul smells

It’s not uncommon for garbage disposals to smell since they often have to break down wet food. When that happens, you can often fix it with some rinsing and cleaning. However, the stench can sometimes persist even after cleaning. When that happens, call a plumber so they can carefully take the garbage disposal apart and find the source of the smell. What you shouldn’t do is use chemical cleaners on your disposal. Using these will often damage the blades and components.

Power problems

A faulty motor may prevent your garbage disposal from turning on or staying on for long. However, there are a couple of other possible reasons why your garbage disposal won’t start, both of which you can easily solve. First, you’ll want to see if resetting the garbage disposal does anything. You’ll also want to see if the circuit breaker is working properly. If those are both working properly, give us a call to work on the faulty motor.

Frequent clogging

If you’ve read our previous blogs, you likely know how to use your garbage disposal without clogging it. However, it’s still possible to get frequent clogging problems. When this happens, it’s a sign that either the garbage disposal is malfunctioning or you just need one with a higher capacity.

Frequent resetting

Your garbage disposal has a reset button to help it some problems, but you shouldn’t have to use it very often. However, if you do have to reset your garbage disposal a lot, it might be time to replace it. It’s also possible you’re dealing with loose wiring, which requires the help of a plumber or electrician.

Strange noises

Garbage disposals can get noisy, but they can get especially noisy if there’s something wrong. Get some tongs and a flashlight and look for anything that may have gotten stuck in there, like a lost spoon. If you find and remove something, try the disposal out again to see if it’s quieter. If that doesn’t help, make sure the disposal’s components are working properly before you call us.

Leaking

Your garbage disposal can leak from a variety of places. Most often, it’ll be some sort of connection leak, which can easily be fixed via some tightening or replacement parts. However, older disposals may develop cracks that can’t be fixed and require a replacement.

What Should I Set My Water Heater Temperature To?

What Should I Set My Water Heater Temperature To?

  • Water Heaters
water heater temperature in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

A surprise cold shower is never fun, but neither is one that scalds your skin. This is why it’s so important to choose the right temperature for your water heater to heat up to. However, you’re not just trying to balance comfort and heat; there are bacterial concerns to think about as well. Keeping the temperature low yet comfortable can keep you and your family from being scalded, but higher temperatures are more capable of killing off bacteria. If you want an expert’s opinion, Alliance Plumbing can give you that knowledge.

How to adjust my water heater’s temperature

Water heaters can have different ways to adjust the temperature depending on the model and fuel type, but they’re all pretty similar. For electric models with a tank and newer gas models, look for the controls behind an insulated access panel. Also, electric models may have the temperature controls on the top/bottom of the tank. With tankless models, you just have to find the temperature readout, which will have the controls on there. Always make sure you test the water’s temperature after you change it. To do that, hold a thermometer under a sink’s running water for a minute when it’s set to be as hot as it can go.

Determining the best temperature

There are two “optimal” temperatures, but which one you want depends on certain factors. 120°F, the temperature suggested by the U.S. Department of Energy, is good at preventing scalding. At this temperature, it takes about a minute of exposure for the water to cause damage. This temperature is especially useful in homes with children or seniors, both of which are more susceptible to scalding. Also, lowering your temperature to 120°F causes your water heater to use less energy to heat the water. This can help you save some money on energy bills and extend the water heater’s lifespan. You shouldn’t go any lower than this, though, or you’ll have problems with bacteria.

The second recommended temperature, as suggested by OSHA, is the default water heater temperature of 140°F. At this temperature, your water will be safe from just about all bacteria. While most bacteria will die off at 120°F, bacteria that causes Legionnaire’s Disease is slightly more durable. 140°F is more capable of scalding, but it’s certain to wipe out LD bacteria. In most cases, you’ll find the bacteria in older water systems or water storage systems that are either outdoors or let water stagnate.

So what’s the best option for your home? In most cases, LD bacteria are uncommon enough that 120° is the safer choice. However, if you know your home is at-risk for LD or someone living there has a compromised or sensitive immune system, go with 140°F. In these cases, it’s also a good idea to look at anti-scald devices to protect the children and seniors in your home.

5 Benefits of Hydro Jetting Your Pipes

5 Benefits of Hydro Jetting Your Pipes

  • Drain Cleaning
  • Plumbing
hydro jetting in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

Whether it’s hard water, tree roots, or some kind of trash, your drains and sewer pipes will eventually get clogged. When clogs get this bad, how do you clear them out? There are many ways to clean them out, but hydro jetting may be one of the most effective. This method has us first look in your pipes using special cameras attached to a computer. When we find the problem, we then spray the blockage with 3,000 to 8,000 PSI of water. This powerful method of clearing out blockages has several advantages over traditional methods.

Here are five reasons you should choose hydro jetting for your next sewer cleaning job:

It’s better for the environment

Hydro jetting requires plenty of water, but it’s more environmentally friendly compared to other methods. Other methods can use chemicals or techniques that can be damaging to the environment. Also, hydro jetting doesn’t use chemicals, making it safe to use near rivers and other bodies of water.

It’s non-invasive

Most sewer work requires a trench to be dug so the workers can reach your sewer pipes. This can be expensive, messy, and time-consuming. However, the hydro jetting hose can reach into your pipes through the pipe’s exit and clear the blockage without requiring any digging.

It’s highly effective

Conventional plumbing methods can clear out blockages, but they often leave behind residue. Over time, those leftovers can help build up enough debris to cause another clog. Hydro jetting can clear out the entire clog along with any residue, whether it’s from the clog or not. By doing this, we help prevent future clogs.

It’s faster and cleaner

Plumbing is rarely a clean job, no matter what method we’re using. There’s always the possibility that plumbing work can result in sewage coming into contact with the plumber or your home. Still, minimizing the inevitable mess is important. Hydro jetting is quicker than other methods, which means we’ll finish quickly and leave you to your life.

It’s very versatile

The cleaning provided by hydro jetting is capable of working with a wide variety of jobs. Not only can it work on residential clogs, but it’s able to clean up in commercial and industrial jobs. Even a severe factory clog can be cleared out with a powerful blast of water.

5 Signs You Need A Faucet Replacement in Texas

5 Signs You Need A Faucet Replacement in Texas

  • Plumbing
faucet replacement in Texas by Alliance Plumbing

Out of all the rooms in your house, the kitchen and bathroom are some of the most commonly used. Having easy access to clean water via their faucets makes it much easier to clean your home and cook. However, you have to be aware of any problems with your faucets in order to avoid major plumbing problems. To properly protect your home, you have to know when your faucets need replacing. If you need a faucet replacement for your Texas home, we can help you learn when to call.

Here are five signs that you should call Alliance Plumbing to get a faucet replacement for your Texas home:

Mineral build-up

You should check your sink often for mineral build-ups if you have problems with hard water. The minerals usually build up inside and around the fixture and can cause major damage if not treated. Serious build-ups will require you to replace the entire faucet. Consider purchasing a water softener in the future to help minimize the minerals in your water.

Corrosion and rust

You know a faucet needs replacing when it’s corroded and rusty. Over an extended period of time, hard water and cleaning chemicals can wear down and damage the material that makes up your faucet. Oftentimes, the corroded material can get into your water and make it look and taste strange. Like with mineral build-ups, you’ll need a complete replacement to fix this. Since this is another hard water problem, a water softener can help your faucet last longer.

Plans for remodeling

When you replace your sink, it may not always be for functional reasons. When people shop for houses, they often take a good look at the bathrooms and kitchen. Because of this, faucets are often one of the things homeowners replace when putting their house up for sale. Replacing a faucet is a great way to improve your home’s value or redesign your bathroom.

Leaks and mold

A leak seems like one of the less worrying problems a faucet can have. However, leaks can cost you a lot via increased water bills. Also, leaky faucets allow mold and other moisture-loving fungi to thrive. Mold is not only capable of causing more damage to your faucet, but the spores can cause a variety of health problems to you and your family.

Old age

Faucets can last a while and still look in good condition. However, you should always consider replacing a faucet nearing the end of its life expectancy. Since every type of faucet has a different lifespan and warranty, you should consult the manual or manufacturer to determine your faucet’s life expectancy. If you can’t get a solid date, fifteen years is usually a safe bet for most sinks.
